👩🏽‍🍳 Instructions
Step 1: Bake the Cake
1 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
2 In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3 Add the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat until well combined.
4 Slowly add the hot coffee and mix until smooth. The batter will be thin — this is what makes the cake so moist.
5 Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6 Let the cakes cool completely on a wire rack.
Step 2: Make the Frosting
1 In a large bowl, cream the butter until smooth.
2 Gradually add the unsweetened cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt, mixing on low speed.
3 Slowly pour in the milk while mixing, adjusting the amount to achieve a spreadable consistency.
4 Add the vanilla extract and beat until the frosting is fluffy and rich.
Step 3: Prepare the Hot Fudge Sauce
1 In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, corn syrup, cocoa powder, sugar, and chocolate chips.
2 Bring to a gentle boil, whisking constantly, until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
3 Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving.
Step 4: Assemble and Serve
1 Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of chocolate frosting on top.
2 Place the second cake layer over the frosting and cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
3 Chill the cake for at least 20 minutes to help the layers set.
4 Warm the hot fudge sauce and pour it generously over each slice before serving.
